Steve Kilgallon is the senior sports writer at the Sunday Star-Times, New Zealand's biggest-circulation Sunday newspaper. He's also worked in Australia for the Sydney Morning Herald, Sun Herald, League Week and Big League and in the UK for several national newspapers, including the Guardian, and for League Express and Rugby League World. In his five years in New Zealand, he has won three Qantas Media Awards for sports news and feature writer of the year - one for coverage of the Nathan Fien 'Grannygate' affair. While he doesn't have a Steve Mascord-style collection of old programmes, bits of strapping tape and yellowing copies of Big League, he has played, coached and administrated the game, and referees in the Auckland Premier division and is a member of the New Zealand NRL touch judging squad.
