Hull KR have confirmed veteran star Stanley Gene will not be playing for the club next season.
The 35-year-old former Papua New Guinea international is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
Rovers are keen for Gene, a Craven Park legend after two spells at the club, to remain in some capacity but have decided against offering a new playing deal.
That means Saturday's sudden-death engage Super League play-off against Wigan - for which Gene is available after escaping a ban this week - could be the playmaker's final appearance for the club.
Gene, who has previously expressed a desire to play on, is now considering his options having also been linked with a player-coaching role at Featherstone.
Rovers coach Justin Morgan said: "He won't be a player. We would love for him to be involved in some regard but that will be his call.
"He will have his own thoughts about what he would like to do. It is something the chairman, Stanley and myself will discuss and the ball will be in his court."
Gene first joined Hull KR after catching the eye playing for Papua New Guinea in the 1995 World Cup.
He later had stints at Hull FC, Huddersfield and Bradford before returning to Craven Park.
