NRL offer lands in front of Super League clubs

AS reported by rugbyleaguehub.com yesterday, an NRL financial offer to invest in Super League has been put before the European competition’s clubs.

Rugby League Commercial issued a short statement which read: “RL Commercial can confirm that a first offer has been received from the ARLC (Australian Rugby League Commission) as part of the sport’s recapitalisation project.

“The Super League clubs have been informed this morning. Details of the offer remain confidential.”

rugbyleaguehub.com understands that part of the proposal for Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys involves the games not picked up by Sky from next season being show globally on DAZN, the new owners of NRL rights holders FoxTel.

In effect the NRL offer is a rights deal which is completely conditional on their involvement. Equity start at 10 percent and rise to 50 over a number of years.

The payments are a previously-reported A$12 per year over five years.

Clubs are set to meet next week to give feedback on the offer with a view to Rugby League Commercial responding to the ARLC. It’s likely there will be considerable bartering in the weeks ahead.
